Cal Poly Fourth After First Round of Play in El Macero Classic

FIRST-ROUND RESULTS
SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Led by freshman Baron Szeto, the Cal Poly men's golf team is fourth among 14 teams competing in the El Macero Classic hosted by UC Davis on Wednesday at the El Macero Country Club.
Szeto carded an opening-round two-under-par 70 that featured five birdies and three bogeys on the 7,138-yard par-72 course. The Campolindo High School graduate is tied for 13th place.
Also in the top 25 are Nicholas Mok with a 71, tied for 18th place, and Austin Liu with a 72, tied for 25th place. Mok notched an eagle on the 515-yard, par-5 15th hole as well as two birdies and three bogeys while Liu recorded six birdies, six pars and six bogeys in his even-par round.
As a team, Cal Poly compiled a four-person two-under-par 286 total. Loyola Marymount leads the way with a 280 total, followed by Denver and Long Beach State, both with 282 aggregates.
The second round os scheduled for Thursday with the final round on Friday.
Cameron Meeks of Loyola Marymount and Tyler Schafer of Long Beach State share the individual lead with five-under-par 67s, one shot ahead of three other golfers. Seven more golfers are two strokes behind in a tie for fifth place.
Cal Poly's other scoring golfers are Will Draper with a 73, tied for 30th place, and Adil Bir Singh with a 78tied for 72nd place. Competing as an individual, Parker Mapes is tied for 56th place with a 76.
Draper shares the lead with six other golfers in par-3 scoring at one under par. Szeto is fifth in par-4 scoring at one under par while Mok is sixth in par-5 scoring at three under par.
Mok is one of five golfers who carded eagles Wednesday. Liu's six birdies are tied for third place.
