Cal Poly to Host Final Home Track and Field Meet of Season Friday

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- The last of three home meets for the Cal Poly track and field program this season will be held Friday afternoon at the Miller and Capriotti Athletics Complex on campus.
Running events begin at 1:15 p.m. with the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase. Several field events will start earlier, with the men's hammer and women's shot put getting under way at 10:30 a.m.
Student-athletes from CSU Bakersfield, Monterey Peninsula College and various track clubs will compete in the meet. A few unattached athletes also will compete.
Three members of the Cal Poly track and field teams own the best mark in the Big West Conference in their specialty. They include Mathis Bresko in the men's pole vault (17-0 3/4), Emily Hallett in the women's hammer (200-11, school record) and Melissa Navarro in the women's javelin (155-8).
Eleven other Mustangs are second or third in the Big West.
On the men's side, Aidan McCarthy is second in the 1,500 (3:44.39), Jake Ritter in the 10,000 (28:55.83), Corban Payne in the shot put (56-3 1/4) and Dylan Bouzigues in the decathlon (7,045).
Mustangs who are No. 2 in women's events include Shelby Daniele in the 100- (11.87) and Cassidy Hubert in the 800 (2:09.49).,
Cal Poly track and field athletes with the third-best marks in the Big West include Misty Diaz in the women's 1,500 (4:26.05), Annie Hatzenbeler in the women's pole vault (12-11 1/2), Isabella Rigby in the women's discus (163-1), Xian Shively in the men's 5,000 (13:58.22) and Spencer Thurman in the men's 10,000 (29:13.31).
After Friday's meet, Cal Poly will compete in the Fresno State Invitational on April 30 in Clovis followed by the Big West Multi-Events Championships (decathlon and heptathlon) on May 6-7 and he Big West Conference Championships on May 13-14, all at UC Davis.
