No. 55 Mustangs Blank Santa Clara to Earn Sixth Straight Win

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — The 55th ranked Cal Poly men's tennis team won its sixth straight match after shutting out Santa Clara on the road Wednesday, 4-0.
The No. 55 Mustangs (15-4, 5-0 BWC) started the match by taking the doubles point over the Broncos (8-10), something they hadn't done their previous two matches. After Santa Clara won at the No. 2 spot, Cal Poly's No. 3 pair of grad student Hendrik Inno and redshirt sophomore Joe Leather won 6-3 before the No. 1 duo of freshman Bastiaan Weststrate and redshirt sophomore Colter Smith clinched the point after winning their match 7-6(4).
Inno and Leather now have a record of 10-6 while Smith and Weststrate improved to 9-4.
In singles, sophomore Noah Berry was victorious at the No. 1 spot after his opponent was forced to retire due to injury in the first set while Berry was leading 5-2. He's won his last five matches and is 13-4 on the year.
Weststrate put the Mustangs up 3-0 after he won in straight sets at the No. 5 spot, 6-1, 6-3. He's won his last two matches and is now 5-3 this season.
The match was clinched by redshirt sophomore Fernando Fonseca after he won at the No. 4 spot, 6-4, 6-1 to complete the sweep.
Cal Poly is now 5-1 this season in road matches. The Mustangs will look to win their sixth road match of the season Thursday when they travel to Palo Alto to face No. 16 Stanford at 2 p.m.
