SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- Jensen Jalufka and Kaylyn Noh both carded 73s and Cal Poly finds itself one stroke behind Hawai'i after the first round of play in the 2022 Big West Conference Women's Golf Championship on Sunday at the San Luis Obispo Country Club.
Jalufka carded four birdies, three bogeys and a double bogey for her one-over-par total while Noh put on her scorecard four birdies and five bogeys as the Mustang pair share third place with UC Riverside's Tiffany Le.
Monica Johnson of Hawai'i leads with a two-under-par 70 on the 6,113-yard par-72 course. Johnson is two shots ahead of Haruka Koda of Cal State Fullerton, who matched par 72.
In the team standings, Hawai'i posted a four-person nine-over-par 297 total, one less than the defending Big West champion Mustangs (298). UC Riverside is third at 302, followed by Long Beach State and Cal State Fullerton, who share fourth place with 305 totals.
Long Beach State actually held the lead by five strokes after completing 12 holes, but the five Beach golfers were 20 over par over the final six holes to fall back.
Second round is set for Monday morning with the final round slated for Tuesday.
In addition to Noh and Jalufka, Cal Poly's other scoring golfers were Caroline Cantlay in ninth place with a 75, Elizabeth Scholtes in 17th place with a 77 and Kamille Dimayuga in 31st place with an 80.
Jalufka is second in par-3 scoring at even par while Noh shared the lead with two other golfers in par-4 scoring at one under par. Jalufka is tied for No. 2 in par-5 scoring at two under par.
Jalufka and Noh along with two other golfers are tied for first with four birdies while Cantlay is third with her 13 pars.
Cal Poly is seeking its second straight Big West title and third in six years, all under seventh-year head coach Sofie Aagaard.
