Cal Poly Invitational Set for Two-Day Run Friday and Saturday

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- Cal Poly will host a number of colleges and clubs in the 2022 Cal Poly Invitational on Friday and Saturday at the Steve Miller and John Capriotti Athletics Complex.
Friday's events include the hammer throw, long jump and javelin for men and women, starting at 11:30 a.m. Saturday's field events begin at 10:30 a.m., with the first running event, the 3,000-meter steeplechase, to start at 1:30 p.m.
Student-athletes from Fresno State, CSU Bakersfield, Saint Mary's, Biola, Fresno Pacific, Southern Idaho, Sonoma State, Santa Clara, Cuesta College and Monterey Peninsula College will compete with the Mustangs along with several unattached competitors and those from various track clubs in the two-day meet.
Cal Poly will be led by four student-athletes with top marks in the Big West.
On the men's side, Xian Shively is No. 1 in the men's 5,000 (13:58.22), Jonathan Chagron tops the conference in the 400 hurdles (53.67) and Mathis Bresko is the No. 1 pole vaulter (17-0.75).
Aidan McCarthy is No. 2 in the Big West in the 1,500 (3:48.43) while Anthony Guerra is second in the 3,000 steeplechase (9:19.13) and Corban Payne is No. 2 in the shot put (56-3.25).
For the women, Emily Hallett tops the Big West in the hammer with a school record mark of 195-10.
Cassidy Hubert is No. 2 in the 800 (2:11.85), Misty Diaz claims the runner-up spot in the 1,500 (4:30.19), Isabella Rigby is second in the discus (163-1) and Melody Nwagwu is No. 3 in the triple jump (39-7.75).
Admission is free for the meet.
