Mustangs Blank Santa Clara Tuesday to Extend Win Streak to Four

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Cal Poly women's tennis continued its strong play Tuesday, beating Santa Clara 4-0 to win its fourth consecutive match and stay unbeaten at home this year. With the win, the Mustangs (9-4) move to 6-0 at Mustang Tennis Complex this season. Their shutout of the Broncos Tuesday is the third match in a row they haven't let their opponent score a point. In doubles, Cal Poly's No. 1 duo of redshirt juniors Kim Bhunu and Emily Ackerman started the match off with a 6-4 win to push their win streak to six straight and move to 10-4 overall. The No. 3 pairing of graduate Laura Bente (pictured) and freshman Peyton Dunkle then clinched the doubles point for the Mustangs after a 6-3 win to improve to 3-0 together. In singles, redshirt sophomore Delanie Dunkle got the first win after a making quick work at the No. 5 spot, getting the victory 6-2, 6-1. She has now won her last four matches. Bente followed suit shortly thereafter with a 6-1, 6-2 win at the No. 2 spot. The dual was then clinched by Peyton Dunkle after she won her match at the No. 6 spot in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2. She now has a team-best record of 9-2 and has won five straight matches. Cal Poly will now begin a stretch of its next four matches against Big West opponents. They will start that stretch on the road Saturday against CSUN at 11 a.m.
