
No. 12 Mustangs Go Undefeated in Trio of Matches Sunday

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — The No. 10 Cal Poly beach volleyball team won all three of its matches Sunday at Swanson Beach Volleyball Complex. The Mustangs beat Southern Miss (5-0), Houston Baptist (4-1), and No. 18 Pepperdine (3-2) to push their win streak to five consecutive matches.Peyton Dueck and graduate Addison Hermstad, playing at the No. 2 spot for the first time this year, won 21-12, 21-18 to get Cal Poly on the board.
At the No. 4 spot, sophomore Piper Naess and redshirt sophomore Josie Ulrich won in their first time playing together this season, 21-14, 21-14.
Playing at the No. 1 spot in the lineup for the first time this year, freshman Piper Ferch and redshirt junior Jayelin Lombard won in straight sets 21-19, 21-10 to clinch the victory for the Mustangs.
Another first-time pair that got a win in the match was redshirt juniors Erika Foreman and Eleonore Johansen. They won at the No. 5 spot, 22-24, 21-15, 15-11.
The 5-0 shutout was rounded out by the No. 3 pairing of redshirt junior Delaney Peranich and sophomore Rachel Rahtz after they won 19-21, 21-12, 15-7.

A few hours later against Houston Baptist, Dueck and Hermstad, this time back at the No. 3 spot in the lineup, once again put the Mustangs on the board first with a 21-17, 21-16 win.
The No. 1 duo of redshirt senior Tia Miric and freshman Ella Connor continued their winning ways with a 21-14, 21-13 win to put Cal Poly up 2-0.
The dual match was then clinched by the No. 4 pairing of Peranich and Rahtz after they pulled out a three-set victory, 19-21, 21-16, 15-11.
Lombard and Ferch were also victorious in the match, winning at the No. 2 spot in two hard-fought sets, 28-26, 26-24.

In their final match of the day against No. 18 Pepperdine, Dueck and Hermstad kept their strong play going to get Cal Poly the first point of the dual after winning at the No. 3 spot, 21-17, 21-14. Dueck and Hermstad are now 8-1 together since becoming a pair and have won seven straight matches.
After the Waves won at the No. 2 spot to tie the dual 1-1, Miric and Connor put the Mustangs back in front after a 21-17, 17-21, 15-9 at the No. 1 spot. Miric and Connor have now won six matches in a row to improve their record to a team-leading 10-4 so far this year.
Pepperdine then pulled out a three-set victory at the No. 4 spot to tie the dual which forced it to come down to the No. 5 pairs. At the No. 5 spot, sophomore Sam Strah and Johansen came back after dropping the first set to win the next two and clinch the win for Cal Poly, 12-21, 21-12, 15-10.
The Mustangs will be back at Swanson Beach Volleyball Complex for three more matches Monday. They will face Boise State at 8:30 a.m. followed by No. 10 at 11:30 a.m. and No. 16 Arizona at 2:30 p.m.
