Swanson Beach Complex Site of 17 Matches Sunday, Monday

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — After going 3-1 in its first home event of the season last weekend, the Cal Poly beach volleyball team will be home again Sunday, March 20 and Monday, March 21 to host a bevy of teams at Swanson Beach Volleyball Complex.
The No. 12 Mustangs (5-7) will welcome seven teams to Mustang Tennis Complex. No. 10 Cal, No. 16 Arizona, No. 18 Pepperdine, Southern Mississippi, Boise State, Houston Baptist, and Santa Clara will each participate. Cal Poly will play three matches each day with a combined total of 17 matches during the two-day event.
Sunday, the Mustangs face Southern Mississippi at 9 a.m., Houston Baptist at 1 p.m., and No. 18 Pepperdine at 3 p.m. Then on Monday, Cal Poly plays Boise State at 8:30 a.m., No. 10 Cal at 11:30 a.m., and No. 16 Arizona at 2:30 p.m.

In its first home event of the 2022 season last weekend, Cal Poly went 3-1 with wins over Arizona State, San Jose State, and Washington. Their only defeat was a 3-2 loss at the hands of No. 6 LMU.
The Mustangs' No. 1, 2, and 3 pairings (which each feature a freshman and an upperclassman) finished a combined 11-1 in those matches. The No. 1 duo of redshirt senior Tia Miric and freshman Ella Connor as well as the No. 3 pairing of freshman Peyton Dueck and graduate Addison Hermstad went 4-0 while the No. 2 duo of redshirt junior Jayelin Lombard and freshman Piper Ferch were 3-1.
So far this season, those three pairs have a combined record of 19-11. Miric and Connor are a team-best 8-4, Dueck and Hermstad are 5-1, Lombard and Ferch are 6-6.
With eight wins so far this season with Connor, Miric now sits at 79 career wins which is tied with Macy Gordon for second-most in program history. Her next one will put her all alone in second.
So far through the first 12 matches, seven have been against fellow AVCA top-20 opponents. After this weekend, that number will jump to 10 ranked opponents through 18 matches.
