BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- Elizabeth Scholtes posted a pair of 72s Monday to establish a one-stroke lead heading into Tuesday's final round of the second annual Valley Invitational at the Bakersfield Country Club.
Scholtes carved out her first par round with two birdies and a pair of bogeys, then in the afternoon posted four birdies and four bogeys to complete another par round on the 6,000-yard course.
Scholtes is tied for first place with Riana Mission of San Francisco, who also recorded a pair of 72s Monday. Siena Lyford of UC Irvine and Elina Saksa of Cal State Fullerton share third place with 145 totals.
San Francisco leads the team standings with a 591 total followed by Grand Canyon at 603 and Cal State Fullerton at 609. Cal Poly is another stroke back at 610 after posting a four-person 307 total in the morning and 303 in the afternoon.
In addition to Scholtes, Jensen Jalufka also is in the top 10 as her 75 and 76 for a 151 total was good enough for a 10th-place tie.
Also scoring for Cal Poly were Vanessa Wang with an 80 and 77 for a 157 total and 29th place, Caroline Cantlay with an 80 and 78 for a 158 total and 33rd place, and Kamille Dimayuga with an 81 and 78 for a 159 total and 42nd place.
Four other Mustangs are competing as individuals, Kaylyn Noh leading the way with a 78 and 76 for an 18th-place tie. Madi Daniels and Nicole Neale are tied for 22nd place while Carissa Wu is tied for 33rd place.
Jalufka is tied for first in par-3 scoring at even par while Scholtes is first in par-4 scoring at two under par. Neale, Noh and Daniel are tied for sixth in par-5 scoring at one under par.
Scholtes is second and Jalufka third with 24 and 23 pars while Scholtes also is tied for fourth with six birdies over 36 holes.
