Five Top-Three Finishes for Cal Poly in WSU Indoor Open

SPOKANE, Wash. -- Melody Nwagwu earned an individual title while Sierra Brill, Annie Hatzenbeler, Karina Moreland and Cassidy Hubert also earned top-three finishes, highlighting Cal Poly's performances in the Washington State Open indoor track and field meet Friday inside The Podium.
Nwagwu, a true freshman from Aurora, Colo., won the women's triple jump with a mark of 39 feet, 2 1/4 inches while Moreland made it a 1-2 Mustang sweep with a best mark of 38-9 3/4.
Hatzenbeler cleared an indoor personal-best 12 feet, 3 1/2 inches to finish second in the women's pole vault behind Emmett High School junior Tatum Richards (12-9 1/2). Alyson Schwartz of Grand Canyon also cleared 12-3 1/2 but Hatzenbeler earned second place due to fewer misses and Schwartz placed third.
Cal Poly placed four runners in the top 10 in the 3,000, led by Brill, second in 9:50.37. She was followed by Schuyler Gooley (sixth), Sydnie Rivas (eighth) and Carissa Buchholz (ninth).
Hubert placed third in the women's 800 with a time of 2 minutes, 12.57 seconds.
Emily Hallett posted a mark of 50-4 1/2 for 11th place in the women's weight throw. That mark would be the third-best in school history, but Hallett also holds the school record with a mark of 53-9 1/2, established in the Michigan Invitational two weeks ago and posted a 51-5 1/2 at the 2020 Arkansas Qualifier.
Anna Grexton's mark of 44-5 1/4 for 23rd place is No. 5 on Cal Poly's all-time list for the women's indoor weight throw.
In the women's shot put, Natalie Rogers placed 12th at 41-5 3/4 while Isabella Rigby finished 19th with a mark of 39-7 3/4. Amaya Lopez-Fuller was 33rd at 35-6 3/4.
The women's high jump saw Lariel Henley finish 24th with a mark of 5-0 1/4 and Olivia Rankin 27th at 4-8 1/4.
On the track, Hailey Golman finished 12th in the mile at 5:08.16 while Kaila Bishop was 26th in the 400 with a time of 1:01.21.
Cal Poly will compete in the Arkansas Qualifier on Feb. 18 in Fayetteville, Ark.
