FINAL RESULTS
LAS VEGAS -- The winds were howling and the scores were high. In fact, no one broke par, with one golfer matching it with a 72. Of the 84 rounds played Tuesday, more than half (43) were 80 or higher.
Cal Poly's women's golf team posted a four-person 313 total in the final round of The Show at Spanish Trail Country Club and slipped out of a three-way tie for fourth place into sixth place with a 32-over-par 896 aggregate.
That 25-over-par round by the Mustangs came less than 20 hours after Cal Poly posted a brilliant seven-under-par 281 in Monday's second round, featuring a 69, a 70 and a pair of 71s.
Even tourney host UNLV had a rough day Tuesday. After producing a 17-under-par 559 total over 36 holes Monday, the Rebels were 13 over par Tuesday, but still held onto the team title with a four-under-par 301 aggregate.
Nevada was second, 13 strokes behind the Rebels, and Augusta finished third at 17 over par.
Despite the conditions, Mustangs Jensen Jalufka and Elizabeth Scholtes finished in the top 20, sharing 17th place with five other golfers, all at six over par 222. Jalufka carded a final-round 80, falling 11 spots on the leaderboard, and Scholtes a 76, climbing eight positions.
Kamille Dimayuga recorded a final-round 79 for a 226 total and 35th place while Vanessa Wang carded an 81 for a 229 total and 47th place. Kaylyn Noh, who notched an eagle on the 542-yard, par-5 sixth hole, finished with a 78 for a 230 total and 55th place.
Individual champion was Leah John, who followed her 69 and 66 Monday with a 77 Tuesday for a four-under-par 212 total and a two-stroke victory over Kendall Todd of UNLV. Nicole Lorup, also of UNLV, was another shot back in third place.
Jalufka finished tied for second in par-3 scoring at one under par. Noh and Dimayuga were two of just six players to record eagles in the tournament. Wang's 37 pars over 54 holes were tied for ninth place.
Coach Sofie Aagaard's Mustangs will compete in the Gunrock Invitational on Feb. 28 and March 1 at the Del Paso Country Club in Sacramento.
