Cal Poly Volleyball Signs Two to National Letters of Intent

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — The Cal Poly volleyball program and the athletic department announced that two high school recruits have signed National Letters of Intent to continue their athletic and academic careers at Cal Poly beginning in the fall of 2023.
The signees include a setter (Samantha Callahan, Livermore, Calif., Granada HS) and an outside hitter (Emma Fredrick, Bakersfield, Calif., Liberty HS).

Samantha Callahan
Setter
Livermore, Calif.
Callahan has played setter for four years at Granada High School in Livermore. In 2021, she earned Honorable Mention EBAL All-League and has been a two-year team captain.
She plays for NorCal Volleyball Club and helped the team win the Red Rock Rave Qualifier in 2022. In 2019, she received the All-NorCal Award and in 2022 was selected to the JVA Watch List.
Callahan, who's sister Hannah plays volleyball at Chapman University, said she chose Cal Poly "because of its rigorous academics and athletics as well as the endless support. As soon as I toured Cal Poly and walked around San Luis Obispo I instantly loved what the campus had to offer and the overall atmosphere."
Emma Fredrick
Outside Hitter
Bakersfield, Calif.
At Liberty High School in Bakersfield, Fredrick has played four years of volleyball as well as basketball and three years of track and field. In volleyball, she has been a two-time All-Area First Team honoree and helped lead Liberty to a Central Section Valley championship in 2022.
A strong all-around athlete, Fredrick has also been First Team All-Area in basketball once and twice in track and field.
Fredrick, who wants to become a pilot in the Air Force after her time at Cal Poly, said she chose Cal Poly because "I loved the coaches, players, and overall environment Cal Poly offered, not to mention the new experiences and opportunities it presented to me."
Following the 2022 season, the Mustangs will lose three players to graduation.
Setter
