SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Cal Poly volleyball earned a straight-set Big West victory over Sacramento State on Thursday evening at The Nest (25-12, 25-15, 25-16), as Caroline Walters moved ahead of Steve Schlick for the program record in Big West wins.
The Mustangs improved to 7-6 overall and a perfect 3-0 in conference play, while Sacramento State fell to 7-7, 2-1. Cal Poly snapped the Hornets’ six-match home win streak dating back to last season. Walters picked up her 85th career Big West win and now sits just four away from tying and five from passing Mike Wilton for overall wins (143).
Cal Poly controlled the match from start to finish in the state capital. The Mustangs never trailed in the opening frame and claimed an easy 25-12 decision. The second set followed a similar script, with Cal Poly jumping out to a 5-4 lead and steadily pulling away. Sacramento State stayed within striking distance early in the third set, tying the score at 10-10, but Cal Poly responded with a decisive 10-4 run to pull ahead 20-14 and never looked back.

They also tallied five service aces, 44 digs, and nine total blocks (18 block assists). Sacramento State was held to a paltry .051 hitting percentage with 25 kills and 20 errors on 99 swings. It was the seventh time this season the Mustangs held an opponent under .200 hitting.
