RANCHOS PALOS VERDES, Calif. — Redshirt junior Delanie Dunkle and sophomore Peyton Dunkle advanced to the semifinals in doubles play at the Jack Kramer Club Classic to highlight action for the Cal Poly women's tennis team.
The three-day tournament was the final event of the fall season for the Mustangs.
"We had a strong fall season and I'm excited where our team and players are headed," head coach Ellie Edles Williams said. "We had some great wins in doubles this past weekend, and we fought well in singles. We're looking forward to a little break before the team season begins again in January."
The Dunkle sisters earned an 8-3 victory over USC's McKenna Koening and Isabelle Lee to open the tourney Friday, before dismantling Fresno State's Carolina Piferi and Mariia Vyshkina 8-5 in the quarterfinals.
In the semifinals, the Dunkle sisters put up quite the fight against Pepperdine's Carolyn Campana and Bunyawi Thamchaiwat, the No. 2 ranked doubles team in the tournament, but came up just short, falling 8-6.
In the Round of 16 Friday, graduate student Kim Bhunu and redshirt junior Melissa LaMette earned an 8-7 (7-4) victory over a doubles team from Fresno State.
Peyton Dunkle also secured a hard-fought 7-6, 6-1 win in her Round of 32 singles match Friday.
