SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Cal Poly fans will get their first chance to see the 2022-23 women's basketball team in action under a new coaching staff for the first time in 25 years when hosting Division III UC Santa Cruz in a Friday exhibition game at Mott Athletics Center.
Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. for the Mustangs, who have 11 returners from last season along with eight newcomers under first year head coach Shanele Stires.
Live stats for Friday's game will be available HERE.
Cal Poly has added five true freshmen and three Division I transfers to this year's roster. That is added to a team that returns its top three scorers from last season.
This will be the first matchup between the two programs. In 2021-22, UC Santa Cruz went 16-4, making it to the championship game of their conference tournament.
Cal Poly will open the 2022-23 regular season Monday, Nov. 7 in Los Angeles against UCLA, a WNIT qualifier last year, at 5:30 p.m. The Mustangs then play their regular season home opener Thursday, Nov. 10 at 11 a.m. against Simpson, an NAIA school out of Redding, Calif. Including Friday's exhibition, Cal Poly will play 16 home games this season.
