SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Following a 32-point victory over Cal State San Marcos, Cal Poly women’s basketball concludes its exhibition schedule by hosting the Cougars’ conference rival, Cal State Monterey Bay, on Thursday at 11 a.m.
It’s Field Trip Day, meaning students from K–12 schools across the area will be in attendance for the morning tip-off. The Mustangs’ regular-season opener is set for next Monday, also at home, against Division II foe UC Merced.
Madison Butcher and Maddy Tauro combined for 33 points in the Mustangs’ 70–38 exhibition win over CSUSM last Wednesday. Cal Poly scored in double digits in every quarter while holding the Cougars to single digits in all but one. The team shot over 50% from the field and recorded 13 steals.
Cal State Monterey Bay is coming off its own exhibition game Tuesday against Arizona, falling to the Wildcats 92–54. Former Mustang Maya Sharvit now plays for the Otters. Last season, she appeared in nine Big West matchups for Cal Poly.
After the exhibition matchup, women’s basketball begins its season with a pair of home matchups, against UC Merced on Nov. 2 and Whittier College on Nov. 5.
