Mustangs Advance to Finals of Three Flights Saturday at UCSB Classic

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — It was another successful day Saturday at the UCSB Classic for the Cal Poly men's tennis team as the Mustangs collected a total of nine wins and saw two doubles teams as well as a one singles player, junior Carter Crookston advances to the finals of their respective flights.
In the semifinals of the Flight A Doubles, the Cal Poly duo of sophomore Bastiaan Westrate and redshirt junior Joe Leather beat UCSB's Brunkow and Ericsson 8-7 (7-5) to advance to Sunday's final.
In the semifinals of the Flight B Doubles, Crookston and redshirt junior Ben Keyser also took down a UCSB tandem, Brown and Liu, 8-5 to also advance to Sunday's final.
Crookston advanced to finals of the Flight C Singles after going 2-0 Saturday. In the quarterfinals, Crookston shutout UCSB's Diego Castillo 6-0, 6-0. Later in the semifinals, Crookston beat San Diego State's Liam Spiers 6-3, 6-0.
In Flight B Singles, freshman Zachary Pellouchoud won his quarterfinal match against BYU's Zach Fuchs 6-2, 7-6(4) before falling in the semifinals to Loyola Marymount's Arthur Pantino, 6-2, 6-2.
In Flight A Singles, Leather made a strong run to the semifinals after beating UCSB's Lucca Liu, 7-6(6), 6-2. In the semifinals, Leather fell in a hard-fought three set match to UCSB's Pablo Masjuan 6-4, 5-7, 6-3.
