
Crookston Wins Singles Title at UCSB Classic Sunday

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — Junior Carter Crookston took home the Flight C Singles title to highlight the Cal Poly men's tennis team at the final day of the UCSB Classic Sunday.
Crookston beat New Mexico's Daniil Kakhniuk in three sets 6-3, 5-7, 7-6 to win the crown. Crookston was a perfect 4-0 in singles for the weekend, beating players from Westmont College, UCSB and San Diego State.
Elsewhere, after making it to the Flight A Doubles final, the Mustang tandem of redshirt junior Joe Leather and sophomore Bastiaan Weststrate fell in the championship match to UCLA's Tripathi and Fradkin 8-3.
Crookston and redshirt junior Ben Keyser made it all the way to final of the Flight B Doubles before falling to LMU's Otico and Pantino 8-3.
Next up this fall for Cal Poly is the ITA Regional Championships in Malibu Oct. 20-23.
