
Mechanics Bank Student-Athlete of the Week: Maia Dvoracek

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — After helping lead the Cal Poly volleyball team to a pair of wins last week to move into a three-way tie for first place in the Big West, senior right side hitter Maia Dvoracek has been named the Mechanics Bank Cal Poly Student-Athlete of the Week.
Dvoracek posted double-doubles in both matches while averaging 3.56 kills per set, hitting .292, 2.89 digs per set while also totaling eight service aces and seven blocks to help the Mustangs beat CSU Bakersfield and Hawai'i.
In the five-set win over CSU Bakersfield, Dvoracek finished with 11 kills, 11 digs, four aces, and three blocks as Cal Poly came back from a 2-1 deficit to win the next two sets and beat the Roadrunners 3-2.
Then on Saturday against first place Hawai'i in front of a sold out Mott Athletics Center, Dvoracek had one of her best performances of the season as she matched a season-high with 21 kills to go along with 15 digs, four aces, and four blocks as the Mustangs beat the Rainbow Wahine 3-1.
Dvoracek now has 11 double-doubles on the season and has three matches of 20+ kills and five matches of 15+ digs.
Now at 7-1 in Big West play, the Mustangs are in a three-way tie for first place in the conference standings with Hawai'i and UCSB, who are set to face each other Saturday in Honolulu.
The Mustangs now embark on a four-match road trip starting Friday when they head to La Jolla to face UC San Diego at 7 p.m.
