Mustangs Win Four Singles Matches at Final Day of Cal Winter Invite

BERKELEY, Calif. — The Cal Poly women's tennis team won four of its five singles matches against Santa Clara during the final day of competition Sunday at the Cal Winter Invite.
Mustang redshirt junior Kim Bhunu picked up a straight sets win over the Broncos' Finley Kalinic 6-3, 6-3. Bhunu finished the season-opening tournament with a singles win and a doubles win.
Redshirt sophomore Melissa LaMette earned her first singles win of the season with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Katherine Petty.
Freshman Peyton Dunkle blanked Varya Zlotnik 6-0, 6-0 to finish the Cal Winter Invite 3-0 in singles.
Freshman Misha Berry won her first career singles match as a Mustang after a 6-2, 6-2 defeat of Lindsey Pesqueira.
Cal Poly also played doubles matches against Saint Mary's Sunday with the Gaels winning all four.
Mariia Kozyreva of Saint Mary's was crowned the Cal Winter Invite singles champion while Cal's Haley Giavara and Valentina Ivanov won the doubles championship.
The Mustangs will now get ready to start the dual match part of their season. They will travel up to Eugene to take on the University of Oregon Friday at 2 p.m. They will then face Gonzaga in Eugene Saturday at 12 p.m.
