Cal Poly Picks Up Three Wins at First Day of Cal Invite

BERKELEY, Calif. — Freshman Peyton Dunkle (pictured) collected her first career singles win as a Mustang and a pair of doubles duos picked up wins for the Cal Poly women's tennis team to open the 2022 season Friday at the first day of the Cal Winter Invite.

The tournament, which features Cal, Santa Clara, and Saint Mary's in addition to the Mustangs, started for Cal Poly Friday morning with singles matchups against the Golden Bears.

Peyton Dunkle, the younger sister of Mustang redshirt sophomore Delanie Dunkle, earned her first singles win as a Mustang after beating Cal's Makenna Thiel via a third set tiebreaker 6-3, 5-7, 10-8.

Later on, the Mustangs played three doubles matches against Santa Clara. Cal Poly's pairing of redshirt juniors Emily Ackerman and Kim Bhunu took down the Broncos' JennaMarie Gordon and Finley Kalinic 6-3.

Also getting a win for Cal Poly was the duo of graduate transfer Laura Bente and Delanie Dunkle. Together they defeated Santa Clara's Velizara Fileva and Katherine Petty 6-2.

The Cal Winter Invite continues Saturday for the Mustangs starting at 12 p.m.
