FRESNO, Calif. -- Jake Haener passed for 380 yards and four touchdowns in less than three full quarters to lead Fresno State to a 63-10 victory over Cal Poly in the renewal of a 99-year rivalry Saturday night inside Bulldog Stadium.
In the 45th meeting between the two schools in a series that dates back to 1922, Haener completed 17 of 22 passes, including two scoring strikes to Josh Kelly. The transfer from Washington also ran for a pair of touchdowns.
With the loss, Cal Poly falls to 1-1 and will play its home opener next week against South Dakota (1-1), a 34-7 winner over Northern Arizona. Fresno State improved to 2-1.
Cal Poly scored all of its points in the second quarter.
Jaden Ohlsen kicked a 47-yard field goal with 11:13 to play in the period after Cal Poly had driven 45 yards on eight plays.
With 46 seconds to play in the first half, Michael Roth's 51-yard punt was fumbled by Ronnie Rivers and Micah Pasion recovered the loose ball on the Bulldog five-yard line.
On the final play of the first half, fourth and goal from the five, Mustang sophomore quarterback Spencer Brasch connected with Chris Coleman, who ran a crossing pattern from right to left, on a five-yard pass and Ohlsen added the extra point, trimming Fresno State's lead to 35-10 at the break.
The second half, however, was all Bulldogs.
Cal Poly, which collected 173 total yards and 10 first downs in the first half, was held scoreless on 24 total yards and no first downs in the third period and 101 yards and three first downs in the second half.
Fresno State outscored Cal Poly 28-0 after the break.
Brasch completed 18 of 33 passes for 212 yards and one score. He was sacked three times. Coleman and Zedakiah Centers each caught four passes while Giancarlo Woods and Michael Briscoe added three receptions each.
Chuby Dunu contributed 32 yards on 10 carries.
Cal Poly, which punted 10 times in the game, managed a two-minute advantage in time of possession but converted on just four of 19 third-down plays. The Mustangs also committed their first two turnovers of the season, one interception and a fumble.
Linebacker Matt Shotwell, Cal Poly's leading tackler the last three years, led the Mustangs Saturday with seven tackles (five solo).
Big Sky teams, which posted three wins against Football Bowl Subdivision teams last week, went 6-6 Saturday.
Winners were UC Davis (53-7 over San Diego), Eastern Washington (56-7 over Central Washington), Weber State (41-3 over Dixie State), Northern Colorado (45-13 over Houston Baptist), Montana State (45-7 over Drake) and Montana (42-7 over Western Illinois).
