Second-Half Goals Lift Cal Poly Past Montana, 2-1
8/26/2021 9:46:00 PM | Women's Soccer
SAN LUIS OBISPO – Freshman forward Quoya Mann's first collegiate strike and a Montana own goal inside a two-minute, second-half span lifted the Cal Poly women's soccer program to a 2-1, come-from-behind victory Thursday evening inside Alex G. Spanos Stadium.
Junior goalkeeper Ava Dorvillier's three saves for Cal Poly (1-2-0) included one with 68 seconds remaining to perverse the Mustang lead. Earning its first victory of the season, Cal Poly fell behind Montana (0-3-0) in the 19th minute after forward Taylor Stoeger played a pass for midfielder Sydney Haustein, who fired past Dorvillier to hand the Grizzlies the early lead.
Facing Montana for just the second time since 2003, Cal Poly was kept to one shot on goal through the opening 63 minutes. In the 64th, however, Mustang sophomore defender Kylie Rojas found Mann who – making her second collegiate appearance – lofted an attempt over Montana goalkeeper Camellia Xu.
Mann was then turned away by Xu in the 65th before Cal Poly's pressure forced Montana's own goal a minute later with midfielder Sidra Bugsch's pass toward Rojas glancing off a Grizzlies defender.
Cal Poly closes its season-opening, four-game home stand against Sacramento State on Sunday, Aug. 29. Kickoff is set for 12 noon.
