Cal Poly Caps Home Stand versus Pair of Big Sky Opponents Thursday, Sunday

SAN LUIS OBISPO – The Cal Poly women's soccer program completes its four-game, season-opening home stand when hosting Big Sky Conference opponents Montana on Thursday, Aug. 26 at 7 p.m. and Sacramento State on Sunday, Aug. 29 at 12 noon. Facing Montana for just the second time since 2003, Cal Poly seeks its first points of the year after dropping season-opening matchups versus No. 24 Stanford (Aug. 19) and Saint Mary's (Aug. 22). Sacramento State (0-1-1), meanwhile, visits UC Santa Barbara on Friday, Aug. 27 before facing Cal Poly.

CAL POLY VERSUS MONTANA: Cal Poly has won three of the last four matchups with Montana, but the Grizzlies prevailed during the last meeting on Sept. 13, 2019, 1-0. Cal Poly last defeated Montana on Sept. 14, 2003, handing the Grizzlies a 3-0 home setback. Dating to the first matchup between the two programs on Nov. 3, 1996 – another 1-0 Montana victory – Cal Poly leads the all-time series, 4-3-0.
CAL POLY VERSUS SACRAMENTO STATE: The Mustangs lead the all-time series, 6-2-0, with the Hornets prevailing in the last matchup on Aug. 25, 2019, 3-1. Cal Poly's last series victory came on Sept. 15, 2017 with the Mustangs making a 10th-minute goal stand in a 1-0 triumph. The two programs first met on Oct. 8, 1994 as Cal Poly produced a 2-0 win in its third varsity season.
TRUCCO BREAKS THROUGH FOR CAL POLY: Forward Nikki Trucco's fourth career strike marked the Cal Poly program's first goal in 21 months as the sophomore handed the Mustangs an early 1-0 lead against Saint Mary's (Aug. 22). The Gaels, however, scored twice in the last 16 minutes to secure a 2-1 victory. Through the opening week of regular season action, Trucco ranks second among Big West Conference players with six shot attempts.
UP NEXT (SEPT. 2 AND 5): Cal Poly hits the road for the first time this season when visiting Air Force on Thursday, Sept. 2 (5 p.m. PT) and Colorado College on Sunday, Sept. 5 (11 a.m.). Cal Poly's matchup at Air Force marks just the program's third all-time meeting with the Academy and first since Sept. 18, 2009. The Mustangs have faced Colorado College just once prior, sliding past the Tigers on Sept. 20, 2009, 1-0.
