No. 6 Mustangs Take On Santa Clara, Saint Mary’s in Home Finale Saturday

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — The Cal Poly beach volleyball team will face a pair of West Coast Conference teams Saturday when hosting its final home event of the 2021 season at Swanson Beach Volleyball Complex. The No. 6 Mustangs will take on Santa Clara at 5 p.m. followed by Saint Mary's at 7 p.m.
In addition to Cal Poly's two matches, Santa Clara and Saint Mary's will kick the afternoon off with a match against each other at 3 p.m.

The No. 6 Mustangs (17-8) are coming off a 1-3 weekend against four top eight ranked teams during the second annual Center of Effort Beach Volleyball Challenge. Cal Poly beat No. 8 Grand Canyon 3-2 but fell to No. 1 UCLA 2-3, No. 2 USC 0-5, and No. 5 LMU 2-3.
The Mustangs got strong showings from both the No. 1 pairing of Emily Sonny and Macy Gordon as well as the No. 2 pairing of Amy Ozee and Jayelin Lombard. Both pairs finished the weekend 3-1 and picked up wins over No. 1 UCLA, No. 5 LMU and No. 8 Grand Canyon. Gordon and Sonny are now a team-leading 18-6 this season and are 7-3 over their last 10 matches while Ozee and Lombard are 16-8 this year.
Sixth-year head coach Todd Rogers will be seeking his 100 career win at Cal Poly this weekend. He currently sits at 99 wins and has a career record of 99-64, including a 76-29 record since 2018.
Santa Clara is 5-2 so far this season and has won its last four matches. The Broncos are coming off wins over San Francisco, San Jose State, and Sacramento State. Cal Poly will be looking for its first win over Santa Clara as the Broncos lead the all-time series 2-0.
Saint Mary's is 8-8 on the year and is coming off a 2-3 week last week in which they beat UC Davis, split a pair of matches against No. 11 Pepperdine, and lost to No. 10 Stanford and No. 12 Cal. The Gaels lead the all-time series over the Mustangs 3-1 but Cal Poly took the last meeting in 2018 5-0.
Saturday will also be senior night in which Emily Sonny, Macy Gordon, Amy Ozee, Peyton Sper, Alina Snyder, Amanda Walker, and Livy Lee will all be honored for their contributions to the Cal Poly beach volleyball program prior to the start of the Saint Mary's match.
Sonny is Cal Poly's all-time leader in career individual wins with 96 and is a three-time First Team All-Big West honoree. Gordon is second in program history for career individual wins with 74 and is a two-time All-Big West recipient.
