Adam Earns Second Career Top-20 Finish as Cal Poly Places 12th

EL MACERO, Calif. -- The Cal Poly men's golf team equalled Sunday's four-man 294 total in Monday's final round and finished 12th in the El Macero Classic hosted by UC Davis at the El Macero Country Club.
Luke Adam posted his first round of 69 of the season and second of his Mustang career, carding five birdies and a pair of bogeys on the 7,110-yard par-72 course. He finished tied for 18th place with two other golfers, climbing 11 spots on the final leaderboard and earning his second career top-20 finish.
Nicholas Mok finished in a tie for 49th place with a final-round 74 and a seven-over-par 223 total for 54 holes while Austin Liu shared 52nd place with four other golfers at eight-over-par 224 following a final-round 76.
Also scoring for Cal Poly were Joey Zambri with a 75 for a 228 total and 71st place and Will Draper with a 77 for a 229 aggregate and 74th place.
Matthew Sutherland of Fresno State claimed medalist honors as he posted rounds of 68, 66 and 69 for a 13-under-par 203 total and a two-stroke victory over Matt McCarty of Santa Clara. Tommy Stephenson of Fresno State was third at 208.
Sharing the team trophy were UC Davis and Saint Mary's, each with 16-under-par 848 totals and two shots ahead of San Francisco.
Cal Poly's 20-over-par 884 total was its second-best total for 54 holes this season.
Adam and Zambri finished tied for third in par-3 scoring at one under par and Adam's 12 birdies was tied for 13th place.
The Mustangs will now prepare for the Big West Conference Championships, scheduled for May 2-4 at the La Quinta Country Club in La Quinta, Calif.
