Sonny and Gordon Repeat Big West Pair of the Week Honors

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — For the second week in a row, Cal Poly beach volleyball redshirt senior Emily Sonny and redshirt junior Macy Gordon have been the Big West Pairs Team of the Week.
Gordon and Sonny won both of their matches Sunday while playing at the No. 1 spot in the lineup as the No. 5 Mustangs defeated both Boise State and No. 15 Arizona.
Against the Broncos, Gordon and Sonny won in straight sets 21-18, 21-9 as Cal Poly beat Boise State 5-0.
Against the No. 15 Wildcats, the duo had the match-clinching victory for Cal Poly as the Mustangs won 3-2.
Gordon and Sonny have now won their last four matches and are a team-best 7-3 together this season.
This is the second weekly honor of the season for Gordon and Sonny. A Cal Poly duo has now won three of the first four weekly Big West honors after redshirt sophomore Jayelin Lombard and grad transfer Amy Ozee took home the honor after the first week of the season.
The No. 5 Mustangs are 8-3 and have won five matches in a row. They will host all but one of the rest of the teams in the Big West for two days of matches at Swanson Beach Volleyball Complex this weekend. Cal Poly will face CSU Bakersfield, UC Davis, and No. 18 Long Beach State on Friday and CSUN as well as No. 6 Hawai'i on Saturday.
