Mustangs Remain Undefeated After 7-0 Shutout of UC Irvine Sunday

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Playing its first match in over two weeks, the Cal Poly women's tennis shutout visiting UC Irvine 7-0 Sunday at Mustang Tennis Complex to remain unbeaten this season at 7-0.
The Mustangs (7-0, 2-0 BWC) dominated the match from start to finish. They took the doubles point from the Anteaters (0-6) after wins by the No. 2 pair of redshirt freshmen Delanie Dunkle and Melissa LaMette 6-1 and by the No. 1 duo of redshirt sophomores Kim Bhunu and Emily Ackerman 6-2.
Dunkle and LaMette are now 4-3 together this season while Bhunu and Ackerman kept their perfect record this season at 4-0.
In singles, redshirt freshman Dominique Stone made quick work at the No. 1 spot, winning her match in straight sets 6-2, 6-2. She is now 6-1, all from the No. 1 spot.
A short time later, LaMette (pictured) put Cal Poly ahead 3-0 after winning her match in straight sets at the No. 3 position 6-3, 6-2 to improve her team-best perfect record to 7-0 this season. She is also now 15-0 in her singles career after finishing 8-0 last year.
Dunkle then secured the victory for the Mustangs with a 6-2, 6-4 win at the No. 4 spot to push her record to 6-1 this season.
At the No. 5 position, Ackerman also improved her perfect singles record this season to 6-0 after a 6-4, 6-4 win.
Freshman Shreya Ravilla won her third match of the year after she picked up a 7-5, 6-3 victory at the No. 6 spot.
The 7-0 win was then clinched after Bhunu rallied to comeback after dropping the first set to win the next two, winning 1-6, 7-6(1), 10-1. She is now 5-1 in singles this year.
The Mustangs will look to remain undefeated Monday when they host the University of San Francisco at Mustang Tennis Complex at 12 p.m.
