SAN JUAN CAPIASTRANO – The Cal Poly men's basketball program continues its lengthiest road trip in 51 years and the inaugural SoCal Challenge when opening Sand Bracket play against first-time opponent Nicholls State on Monday, Nov. 22. Tip time from the JSerra Pavilion in San Juan Capistrano, Calif., is 12 noon for Cal Poly (1-3), which looks to snap a three-game slide following Friday's defeat at Santa Clara. The Cal Poly-Nicholls State winner faces either Idaho or Utah Valley in the SoCal Challenge Sand Bracket title game on Wednesday, Nov. 24 at 2:30 p.m.; the losing side plays in the third-place game on the same date at 12 noon. Nicholls State (3-2), saw a three-game, season-opening win streak snapped with successive road defeats at defending national champion Baylor (89-60) on Nov. 15 and TCU (63-50) on Nov. 18. The Colonels won last season's Southland Conference title before falling in the tournament championship game.
CAL POLY VERSUS NICHOLLS STATE AND THE SOUTHLAND CONFERENCE: The Mustangs and Colonels have never previously met. Cal Poly last faced a Southland Conference foe on Dec. 3, 2016, delivering an 82-70 home victory against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Including seven total matchups versus Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and New Orleans, Cal Poly has defeated Southland Conference opponents just twice.

THE LONG AND WINDING ROAD: Cal Poly's nine-game road trip is the program's lengthiest since playing 12 successive games away from home during the 1970-71 season (Dec. 12-Jan. 22). Cal Poly also played nine straight road games to open the 1968-69 season.

KOROMA RESUMES SCORING WAYS: One of Cal Poly's top two scorers for a successive season, junior forward Alimamy Koroma – fueled by a pair of double-digit scoring outings, including a season best 19-point effort versus Sacramento State (Nov. 15) – is averaging 13.5 points per evening. Koroma is also Cal Poly's second leading shooter with a 55.0 (22-for-40) percent field goal mark. With 21 career double-digit scoring games, Koroma is averaging 9.4 points and 4.3 rebounds per 52 collegiate outings.

THE GRADUATE: Three games in a Cal Poly uniform and three double-digit scoring outings for graduate guard Jacob Davison, who enters Monday's matchup versus Nicholls State as the program's leading scorer with 14.3 points per night. An offseason transfer after helping Eastern Washington to the 2021 NCAA Tournament, Davison scored 14 points in his Nov. 9 Cal Poly debut before finishing with a season high 19 points against North Dakota State (Nov. 12). Through 112 collegiate appearances, Davison is averaging 12.6 points per game.

COLVIN CLIMBS SCORING CHART: Sophomore guard Kyle Colvin surpassed his opening three-game scoring total with a season high 18 points at Santa Clara (Nov. 19). After missing last season through injury, Colvin is now Cal Poly's leading shooter at 60.0 (12-for-20) percent and third leading scorer at 8.3 points per game.

LOOKING AHEAD: After completing SoCal Challenge action, Cal Poly continues its nine-game road trip at California Baptist on Thursday, Dec. 2. Cal Poly last faced California Baptist on Nov. 29, 1999, producing a 102-87 home win.

ETC.: Since transitioning to the Division I level prior to the 1994-95 season, Cal Poly improved to 44-1 against non-Division I programs with an 86-53 home win against NAIA Westcliff (Nov. 9).
