SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- Cal Poly's men's and women's cross country teams will compete in the NCAA West Regional on Friday at Haggin Oaks Golf Course in Sacramento.
The women's 6K race begins at 10 a.m., with the men's 10K to follow at 11 a.m.
Portland is the defending regional men's team champion while Stanford captured the women's crown. That was in 2019 at Colfax, Wash. The 2020 regionals were not held due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Sacramento also hosted the regionals in 2013, 2016 and 2018, all at Haggin Oaks Golf Course.
The NCAA finals in Tallahassee, Florida, on Nov. 20 will feature 31 full teams (18 qualifying automatically — two from each of the nine regions — plus 13 at-large squads), along with 38 individuals per side.
The top four individual finishers not already on a top-two scoring team will automatically advance from every region provided they finished in the top 25 at each respective meet, to be joined by two more final individual entrants selected on an at-large basis by an NCAA subcommittee.
Cal Poly is coming off second- (men) and third-place (women) finishes at the Big West Conference Championships held two weeks ago at Wildhorse Golf Course in Davis.
William Fallini-Haas was Cal Poly's top finisher in the men's race as he placed third while Schuyler Gooley led the Mustang women with a ninth-place finish.
In addition to Fallini-Haas, Cal Poly's other entries in the men's race will be Anthony Guerra, Aidan McCarthy, Xian Shively, Rory Smail, Colton Swinth and Spencer Thurman.
Gooley will be joined in the women's race by Sierra Brill, Hailey Golmon, Misty Diaz, Julia Heckey, Claudia Miller and Sydnie Rivas. Miller is recovering from a minor injury. If she cannot compete, Elise Boisvert will serve as the alternate.
Spectator admissions/parking is $10 cash per vehicle. Spectators will only have to pay the parking fee to attend the meet. All non-bus vehicles, including spectator vehicles, team vans, coaches' vehicles etc, must access parking through the Sacramento Softball Complex at 3450 Longview Drive in Sacramento.
