SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Sierra Brill and Anthony Guerra were Cal Poly's top finishers in the NCAA West Regional Cross Country Meet held Friday at Haggin Oaks Golf Course.
Brill placed 54th in the women's 6,000-meter run to lead the Mustangs to a 14th-place finish among 35 schools. Brill's time was 21 minutes, 0.7 seconds.
Guerra finished 61st in the men's 10,000-meter race as the Cal Poly men's squad placed 15h among 29 colleges and universities in the West Region. Guerra's time was 31:10.6.
Stanford won both the men's and women's races.
The Cardinal edged Washington 61-66 in the men's 10K with Portland third, scoring 94 points.
The Cardinal women scored 42 points while Washington was second at 84 and Oregon third with 100 points.
Stanford also claimed one of the individual titles as Julia Heymach placed first in the women's race with a time of 20:01.1. Kieran Lumb of Washington won the men's race in 29:28.5.
Cal Poly's other scoring runners in the women's race were Xian Shively, 79th in 31:34.2; William Fallini-Haas, 87th in 31:47.2; Colton Swinth, 94th in 31:57.1; and Aidan McCarthy, 96th in 31:59.3.
On the women's side, Julia Heckey finished 59th in 21:06.6, Schuyler Gooley was 74th in 21:18.3, Sydnie Rivas placed 94th in 21:44.9 and Hailey Golman was 113th in 22:06.2.
The NCAA Division I National Championships will be held Nov. 20 in Tallahassee, Florida.
