
Cal Poly Men's Tennis Defeats UC Riverside in Conference 6-1

RIVERSIDE, Calif. — The Cal Poly men's tennis team took down UC Riverside 6-1 Sunday, April 1st for the second conference dual match of the season. Sunday's win makes the Mustangs' conference record 2-0 and their overall 14-5.
Associate head coach Garrett Patton said, "I am proud of the team for playing a complete match today. We looked sharp throughout the entire match. We jumped out to a quick lead after doubles and kept the momentum on our side."
In doubles, senior Axel Damiens and junior Josh Ortlip defeated Pawel Jankpwiak and Vingesh Subamanyan 6-3, making their record 10-4 this season.
Senior Karl Enander and junior Dominic Bechard took down Nabil Abdallah and Anderson Ju 6-3, making their doubles record 9-4.
Freshmen Andrew Whitehouse and Roman Shenkiryk played Kyle McCann and Filip Engstrom but did not finish.
In singles, the Mustangs won every match besides one.
Ortlip took down Jankowiak easily 6-1, 6-1. After this weekend, his singles record is 15-5 – all from court one.
On court two, Bechard defeated Banjamin Kilchherr 7-6, 7-5, making his singles record 12-1.
Sophomore Antoine Noel defeated McCann 6-3, 6-3 on court three. On court four, Damiens took down Abdallah 6-2, 6-3.
Riverside scored their only point of the day on court five, where Gilbert Chung (UCR) defeated freshman Alexander Stater 6-4, 6-4.
On court six, Enander came back to defeat Subamanyan in three sets 4-6, 7-6, 10-4.
The Mustangs continue conference play next Sunday, April 8th for a home dual match against Hawai'i at 10 a.m. at Mustang Courts.
