SAN JOSE — Despite close contests in its singles matches, the Cal Poly women's tennis team fell to San Jose State on the road Sunday 4-0. The match had to be moved to Sunday instead of Saturday due to rain.
San Jose State won the doubles point after wins at the numbers one and two spots.
Senior Molly Reed battled tough in her singles match at the No. 3 spot against the Spartans' Miyo Kobayashi. She won the first set 6-1, lost the second 4-6 and was tied 2-2 in the third when the match was called early after San Jose State won its fourth point.
At the No. 5 spot, freshman Grace Olyphant also won her first set against Jackie Wagner, 7-6 (5) before being called in the second set.
The Spartans won at the one, two and six spots to take the three points they needed for the 4-0 victory.
The Mustangs are now 3-7 on the season. They travel to northern California next weekend to take on Sacramento State on Saturday and Santa Clara on Sunday.
