
Cal Poly Women's Tennis Falls in Close Battle with UC Davis

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif.— Freshman Grace Olyphant (pictured above) won both her singles and doubles match, her second in a row in both and fellow freshman MacKenzie Worsnop won her first match of the season at the No. 1 spot but the Cal Poly women's tennis team fell to UC Davis 4-3 Sunday at Mustang Tennis Courts.
The Mustangs (3-6, 0-2 BWC) began the match by taking the doubles point. The duo of senior Molly Reed and sophomore Seriana Saltzen beat the Aggies' No. 1 doubles team of Lani-Rae Green and Kristina Breisacher 6-3. Olyphant and junior Caroline Williams won their second doubles match in a row at the No. 3 position, beating Shirley Hall and Nikita Pradeep 6-1.
In singles play, Worsnop defeated Breisacher 6-1, 6-4 for her first win of the season at the No. 1 position. Olyphant beat Kelsie Bryant 6-1, 7-6 (3) from the No. 5 spot. She is now 4-3 on the season.
With the score tied at 3-3, the final point came down to court 6. Cal Poly's Celine Gruaz took the UC Davis' Hall to a third set, battled tough, but was ultimately beat 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.
The Mustangs return to action next Saturday when they travel to San Jose State to take on the Spartans. The match is set to begin at noon.
