
Cal Poly Men's Tennis Falls to Loyola Marymount University

LOS ANGELES — Cal Poly men's tennis was defeated by Loyola Marymount University on Friday, Feb. 23. The teams squared of in a dual match at the LMU Tennis Center days after receiving national rankings.
LMU men's tennis is sporting their best ranking in program history at No. 42 while Cal Poly sits at No. 44. Friday's matchup left the Mustangs 6-4 on the season and LMU 5-2.
In doubles, junior Josh Ortlip and senior Axel Damiens took down Nick Borchesnko and Gabriel Diaz Freire first 6-4.
LMU tied it up as Junior Dominic Bechard and senior Karl Enander lost to Diego Nave and Errol Smith 6-4.
Freshmen Andrew Whitehouse and Roman Shenkiyrk lost to Charles Boyce and Lukas Moenter in the deciding match on court two 7-5 giving LMU a 1-0 lead.
In singles, the Mustangs won on court one and two, but lost the rest. Ortlip defeated Diaz Friere in two long sets 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (8-6). Bechard took the win as Moenter retired with an injury.
Sophomore Antoine Noel lost to Smith 4-6, 6-4, 6-4. Damiens lost to Boyce 7-5, 6-4. Stater lost to Borchenko 6-3, 6-0. Whitehouse lost to Nava 6-4, 6-7 (3-7), 6-3.
Mustang tennis returns to action Saturday at LMU for their second match of the weekend against (6-0) Nevada at 1 p.m.
