
Mustangs Split Pair of Dual Matches at ITA Kick-Off Weekend

COLLEGE STATION, TX – Cal Poly (3-1) split two dual matches this weekend at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend Invitational at Texas A&M, defeating Georgia State 4-1 and falling to No. 7 Texas A&M 4-0.
Saturday's match rained out against Georgia State; therefore the Mustangs played both games Sunday.
The Mustangs easily defeated Georgia State 4-1. The match started with singles, and never progressed to doubles.
Sophomore Antoine Noel defeated Jack MacFarlane first 6-2, 6-2.
Senior Axel Damiens lost to Sebastian Acuna 7-6, 6-3.
Freshmen Alexander Stater defeated Kevin Huynh 6-2, 2-6, 6-4.
Junior Josh Ortlip, playing in the No. 1 spot for the Mustangs, defeated Andrei Andrukhou 5-7, 6-3, 6-2.
Junior Dominic Bechard secured the win for the Mustangs defeating Quentin Couland 6-4, 4-6, 7-5.
The Mustangs played No. 7 Texas A&M and lost 4-0 later in the day. Texas A&M won the tournament without dropping a single match, defeating LSU.
Ortlip lost his first match of the season against Arthur Rinderknech 6-3, 6-1. He is now 3-1 in singles this season.
Bechard lost to ITA-ranked No. 41 Jordi Arconada 6-3, 6-0. Noel lost to Juan Carlos Aguilar 6-2, 6-2. Stater lost to Barnaby Smith 6-2, 6-2 as well.
Two Mustangs didn't finish their matches but played ranked opponents. Damiens played No. 10 Valentin Vacherot, and Shenkiyrk played No. 53 A.J. Catanzariti.
The Mustangs return to action against San Diego State Saturday, Feb. 3 at Mustang Courts at 12 p.m. They will also take on Fresno State Sunday, Feb. 4 at home starting at 2 p.m.
