Cal Poly Men's Golf Team Claims 11th Place in Olympic Intercollegiate

DALY CITY, Calif. — A final-round 74 by No. 5 golfer Court Lewis on Tuesday helped the Cal Poly men's golf team to an 11th-place finish among 14 teams competing in the Olympic Intercollegiate hosted by the University of San Francisco.
Coach Scott Cartwright's Mustangs slipped two spots in the final round with a four-person 302 total on the 6,908-yard, par-71 Olympic Club course.
Brigham Young captured top team honors with a seven-over-par 859 total for 54 holes, eight shots ahead of runner-up Saint Mary's. Texas Christian was another shot back in third at 868.
Lewis (pictured above) finished with a three-round 13-over-par 226 total, tied for 42nd place.
Cole Nygren was Cal Poly's top finisher for the tournament, carding a final-round 76 for a 220 total and a 19th-place tie. Justin De Los Santos was next with a 75 for a 222 aggregate and a 33rd-place tie.
Also scoring for Cal Poly were Jesse Yap and Jordan Wright, both finishing in a tie for 51st place with 228 totals. Both recorded a final-round 78.
Second-round leader Stefano Mazzoli of Texas Christian carded a final-round 71 and edged Riley Elmes of Loyola Marymount for medalist honors by one stroke. Rhett Rasmussen of Brigham Young finished third with a 212 total.
Yap finished 12th in par-5 scoring at minus-two while Nygren was 15th in par-4 scoring at plus-three. De Los Santos was the top Mustang in par-3 scoring at No. 17.
Lewis and Yap were two of eight golfers to card an eagle in the tournament. Nygren's nine birdies were 11th in the field of 75 golfers and Wright finished seventh with his 37 pars.
Cal Poly will compete in the Hartford Hawks Invitational next Monday and Tuesday at the Bulls Bridge Golf Course in South Kent, Conn.
