FULLERTON, Calif. – The Cal Poly women's tennis team dropped its matchup against Cal State Fullerton on Saturday afternoon, 4-0 at Titan Tennis Courts. Cal Poly freshman Ilana Olyenik (pictured) nearly pulled off the upset from the third position before falling in straight sets to Karla Portalatin, 7-5 and 6-2.
Cal Poly (3-12 overall, 1-5 Big West) was unable to solve the Titans after Cal State Fullerton secured the initial four singles points for the victory. Both teams decided to begin the match with singles, due to the threat of rain in the area. With the doubles portion not necessary, the match was ended after the Titans clinched.
Cal State Fullerton (17-3 overall, 6-0 Big West) is currently one game behind Long Beach State for first place in the conference heading into the final week of the season.
Cal Poly junior Zoe Oedekerk was defeated by CSUF's Alexis Valenzuela from the first position in straight sets, 6-2 and 6-2, while sophomore Abigail Bacharach was ousted in the fourth spot by Camille De Leon, 6-1 and 6-0.
Cal Poly is scheduled to play its final regular season road match at 11 a.m. Sunday against UC Irvine.
