UC SANTA BARBARA 6, CAL POLY 1
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – Cal Poly sophomore Molly Reed won for the fifth time this season, but the women's tennis team was unable to find any sort of rhythm on Saturday during a 6-1 loss to Blue-Green Rival and 75th-ranked UC Santa Barbara at Mustang Courts. Reed is now 5-2 during dual match play from the sixth singles position this season and has captured three consecutive wins overall.
UC Santa Barbara took control of the match early by claiming the doubles point after Melissa Baker and Stephanie Yamada defeated Reed and Abigail Bacharach from the second position, 6-1.
Reed defeated Natalie Da Silveira in comeback fashion, 4-6, 6-2 and 10-8 to win for the third consecutive match. UC Santa Barbara won each of the first five singles matchups, as Cal Poly was unable to secure any set victories except for Reed's winner at No. 6.
The Gauchos clinched the match after Stefani Stojic defeated Cal Poly freshman Ilana Oleynik from the third position in straight sets, 6-2 and 6-1.
Cal Poly (3-14 overall, 1-7 Big West) hosts San Jose State at 10 a.m. next Saturday, April 23 in a matchup that was rained out in March. Admission at Mustang Courts is free.
