SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – For the second consecutive day, the 67th-ranked Cal Poly men's tennis team dropped a home match after falling to Boise State on Saturday afternoon, 4-3 at Mustang Courts. Despite taking the early advantage by winning the doubles point, Cal Poly lost four of the six singles matchups against the Broncos.
After the Boise State tandem of Kyle Butters and Toby Mitchell beat Ben Donovan and Corey Pang from the first position, 6-3, Cal Poly needed a win from the sophomore combination of Dan Cardiff and Karl Enander to secure the doubles point. Cardiff and Enander beat Abe Hewko and Brian Foley from the third position, 7-6 (6), clinching the first point of the match.
Boise State's Thomas Tenreiro ousted Garrett Auproux from the second singles position in two sets, 6-1 and 6-4 to even the match at one apiece. Cal Poly reclaimed the lead after a victory by Donovan over Foley from the first position, 6-1 and 6-4.
Boise State collected the next three singles battles to clinch the match, before Cal Poly's Corey Pang (pictured) won his seventh straight solo matchup overall. Pang defeated Mitchell from the third position, 6-2, 3-6 and 10-4 to improve to 12-4 overall as a solo attacker in dual match play this year.
Cal Poly (8-8) begins Big West Conference play and wraps up its season-long home stand when welcoming Hawai'i at 12 p.m. Sunday, April 3 at Mustang Courts. Admission is free.
