
Reed Shines for Cal Poly in Defeat to Loyola Marymount

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Sophomore Molly Reed captured both of her singles and doubles matchups on Thursday during Cal Poly women's tennis' 6-1 loss to Loyola Marymount at the LMU Tennis Center. Reed (pictured) won her singles matchup at No. 6 against Ellie Grossman in three sets, 6-3, 5-7 and 10-7 and her doubles battle alongside sophomore Abigail Bacharach, 7-5, over LMU's Andrea Crespo and Julia Norlin.
To begin the day, Cal Poly fell behind after LMU grabbed the doubles point behind wins from the first and third positions. The Cal Poly duo of Reed and Abigail Bacharach evened the doubles point at one after their 7-5 win at No. 2. Reed and Bacharach were down, 4-1, at one point before battling back for victory.
At No. 1 doubles, senior Danè Joubert and junior Zoe Oedekerk were tied with LMU's pairing of Jessica Perez and Elvira Juravliova at five-all before falling 7-5.
In singles, Cal Poly true freshman Celine Gruaz nearly pulled off a second-set victory at No. 5, but fell to Anna Romeka in consecutive sets, 6-0 and 6-4. Cal Poly Oedekerk also played well from the first position before falling in successive sets to Perez, 6-3 and 6-1.
Reed's singles victory was her fourth of the dual match season.
Joubert had her three-match win streak snapped by Juravliova at No. 4, 6-1 and 6-1.
Cal Poly (2-10) resumes Big West Conference action next week when hosting Long Beach State at 1 p.m. Friday, April 1 and UC Riverside at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 2 at Mustang Courts.
