SAN DIEGO STATE 5, CAL POLY 2
SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Senior Danè Joubert won her third singles matchup in a row and junior Zoe Oedekerk completed a comeback for victory, but it wasn't enough as Cal Poly women's tennis was tripped up by San Diego State on Tuesday, 5-2, at the Aztec Tennis Center.
Cal Poly (2-9) fell behind early against the Aztecs after SDSU won from the first and third doubles positions to grab the early momentum. Joubert and freshman Ilana Oleynik were defeated by SDSU's Jana Buth and Isabelle Hoorn, 6-3, from the first position to seal the doubles point for the Aztecs.
San Diego State had already clinched the match with a 5-0 lead when Joubert and Oedekerk won their matchups. Joubert beat Hoorn at No. 5, 7-6 (7-4) and 6-1 to improve to 5-2 in solo dual matches this season. Joubert leads the team with her five singles triumphs, while her 5-2 record from the fifth position is also tops among her teammates.
Oedekerk (pictured) improved to 2-1 from the third position this season after her come-from-behind win over Paola Diazde Regules in three sets, 6-1, 1-6 and 10-7.
Cal Poly visits LMU at 1:30 p.m. Thursday and returns home next week to continue Big West Conference play against Long Beach State and UC Riverside.
