
Cal Poly Collects Second Spring Dual Victory, Sweeps UC Santa Cruz

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – The Cal Poly women's tennis team delivered its second victory of the spring dual-match season on Saturday afternoon after a 7-0 sweep of UC Santa Cruz at Mustang Courts. During the match, Cal Poly failed to lose more than two points in any set in all nine matches, including earning a clean sweep of the three doubles matchups.
To begin the day, sophomore Abigail Bacharach and junior Emily Gibbens beat UCSC's tandem of Amy Leslie and Melanie Waechtler, 6-0 from the third position, while senior Bryn Bacharach and freshman Ilana Oleynik defeated the Banana Slugs' Eve Buciak and Sylvia Brummitt, 6-0 from the first spot to collect the doubles point for Cal Poly.
In singles, Abigail Bacharach delivered a straight set, 6-0, 6-0 whitewashing of Buciak at No. 6, Bryn Bacharach ousted UCSC's Stephanie Graziano in two sets, 6-0, 6-1 and Cal Poly sophomore Zoe Oedekerk beat Ashley Brudzinski in back-to-back sets, 6-0, 6-0 for the match-clinching points.
Cal Poly's Gibbens outlasted UCSC's Brummitt from the No. 1 spot, 6-2, 6-2, Oleynik (pictured) defeated Brook in two sets, 6-0, 6-0 from the second position and senior Dane Joubert nearly swept Matthews at No. 5, 6-1, 6-0 to complete Cal Poly sweep of the Banana Slugs.
Cal Poly (2-4) hosts Pacific at 11 a.m. Sunday to conclude its longest home stretch of the spring dual match season. Admission at Mustang Courts is free.
