SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – During a windy day on the central coast, Cal Poly women's tennis was unable to overcome a slow start on Monday during a 4-0 loss to UC Davis at Mustang Courts. The Aggies grabbed the doubles point for the early lead, then outlasted the Mustangs in three singles matchups for the triumph.
Cal Poly sophomore Zoe Oedekerk (pictured), along with senior Bryn Bacharach were able to force a third set in their battles, but each was halted when the Aggies clinched from the sixth position. Oedekerk went back and forth with UCD's Jessie Lee at No. 3 (6-2, 2-6, 1-3) and Bacharach's fight with Kamila Kecki in the fourth position (6-4, 3-6, 0-4) was cut short when UC Davis collected the match victory.
To begin the day, the Aggies won a pair of doubles matchups, including Lani-Rae Green and Kristy Jorgensen beat Oedekerk and Dane Joubert at No. 1, 6-3. UC Davis' Frederique Sleiffer and Kecki clinched the point for the Aggies with a 6-1 victory at No. 3 over Cal Poly's duo of Abigail Bacharach and Molly Reed.
Cal Poly freshman Ilana Oleynik fell to Jorgensen in the second singles position, 6-3, 6-4 and Green defeated Mustang junior Emily Gibbens at No. 1, 7-6 (5), 6-0 for the 3-0 match advantage.
Isabella Von Ebbe downed Cal Poly's Abigail Bacharach at No. 6, 6-2, 7-6 (2) for the match-clinching win.
UC Davis improved to 4-4 this season and 1-1 in conference play, while Cal Poly lost its fourth straight match and is now 1-4 overall and 0-2 in conference.
