
De Los Santos Leads Cal Poly to Fourth-Place Finish in Nick Watney Invite

FRESNO, Calif. -- Justin De Los Santos finished one shot out of the lead and led Cal Poly to a fourth-place team finish in the final round of the Nick Watney Invitational on Tuesday at the San Joaquin Country Club.
With a 69 and 70 Monday and a 70 Tuesday, De Los Santos posted a four-under-par 209 totaL for 54 holes. Perry Cohen of Saint Mary's shot a final-round 69 for a 208 total and medalist honors.
Tied for third place were Patrick Fishburn of Brigham Young and Matt Lutz of UC Riverside with 210 totals. Fishburn carded a final-round 67 and Lutz a 71.
Brigham Young claimed the team title with a four-person 54-hole one-over-par 853 total, two strokes ahead of Nevada and Saint Mary's. Cal Poly carded a final-round 284 for an eight-over-par 860 aggregate and fourth place.
Cal Poly's other top-20 finisher besides De Los Santos was Cole Nygren, also a senior, with a final-round 68 for a 215 total and a 13th-place tie with two other golfers.
Grady Smith shot a 76 for a 221 total and 31st place while Court Lewis posted a 74 for a 222 total and 37th place. Jordan Wright (pictured above) checked in with a 72 for a 225 total and 52nd place.
De Los Santos finished even par on the par-three holes as well as par-four holes and was four-under-par on the par-five holes. His 13 birdies over 54 holes was third-best in the 89-golfer field while Nygren's 39 pars were third as well.
Cal Poly returns to action Oct. 17-18 at the Bill Cullum Invitational hosted by CSUN at the Wood Ranch Golf Course in Simi Valley.
