
Martin Finishes Fourth, Leads Cal Poly to Sixth Place in El Macero Classic

EL MACERO, Calif. -- One day after carding his best score as a Mustang, Cal Poly freshman golfer Mitch Martin earned his first collegiate top-10 finish.
Martin posted a final-round 74 Sunday and moved up two positions into a tie for fourth place with Ryan Tetreault of Cal State Fullerton, both with one-over-par 217 totals, at the El Macero Classic hosted by UC Davis at the El Macero Country Club.
Martin, a 2013 graduate of Arroyo Grande High School, recorded a 75 Friday and a 68 Saturday, his third round in the 60s as a Mustang.
Also finishing in the top 20 for Cal Poly was sophomore Cam Price as he matched par 72 Sunday on the 6,912-yard course. He finished with a seven-over-par 223 total, tied for 17th place with three other golfers.
As a team, Cal Poly finished sixth in the 12-team field, posting a final-round four-person 293 total for an 887 aggregate for 54 holes, just five strokes out of third place.
Host UC Davis won with an eight-under-par 856 total, followed by Cal State Fullerton at 872 and Grand Canyon at 882.
Cal Poly's other scoring golfers were Cole Nygren with a final-round 75 for a 226 total and 27th place, Justin De Los Santos with a 72 in the final round for a 226 total, leaping from 46th place to 27th, and Jordan Wright with a 77 for a 230 total and 45th place.
Competing as an individual, Johnny Castles finished 41st with a final-round 77 for a 229 total.
With a final-round 69, Matt Hansen of UC Davis overtook second-round leader Mark Anguiano of Cal State Fullerton and Luke Vivolo of UC Davis for the individual title. Anguiano posted a 75 for a 212 total, two strokes behind Hansen, with Hayden Webb of Grand Canyon taking third with a 72 and a 213 total.
Cal Poly will compete in the Big West Conference Men's Golf Championship on April 27-29 at the Soboba Springs Golf Course in San Jacinto, Calif.
