WALNUT, Calif. — Cal Poly distance runners Mary Hillis and Sean Davidson both recorded historic times in their races at the 56th annual Mt. SAC Relays in Hilmer Lodge Stadium on Thursday night.
Hillis, a redshirt freshman, ran the fourth-fastest 3,000-meter steeplechase in school history. She was 13th in the women's 'A' Open Division, with a time of 10 minutes, 47.65 seconds.
At the end of the night, Davidson, a senior, finished the 10,000 meters in 29:11.20, placing fourth in the men's Invitational Elite race. It goes down as the No. 5 performance in program history.
Davidson vastly improved upon his previous PR from a year ago, 29:35.80, which was No. 9 on the all-time top-10 list.
Hillis had also already entered the all-time top 10 for her event, as she finished in 11:08.32 (10th) at the Cal Poly/ShareSLO.com Invitational on March 29.
They're two of 18 current Mustangs (11 on the men's side and seven for the women's squad) who own times or marks that rank in the top-10 echelon of Cal Poly history.
Day 2 of the meet will resume at 10:15 a.m. and is expected to go until nearly 11:30 Friday night. Live results can be followed HERE.
