
Price Finishes Second, Cal Poly Sixth in Fresno State Classic

FRESNO, Calif. – Cal Poly sophomore Cam Price finished second in the Fresno State Classic, which concluded a two-day, 54-hole run Tuesday at the San Joaquin Country Club.
Price, who posted a pair of 70s Monday for the lead after 36 holes of play, slipped to a 75 Tuesday for a two-over-par 215 total, one stroke behind individual winner Jordan Epstein of UC Santa Barbara. Epstein, who started the final round in sixth place, posted a 68 to vault over five golfers to the top of the leaderboard.
Rhyne Jones and Brian Knoll, both of Nevada, and Cory McElyea of San Francisco shared third place with 218 totals.
Price led Cal Poly to a sixth-place team finish. Coach Scott Cartwright's Mustangs posted a four-person final-round 296 total for a 40-over-par 892 total on the 6,776-yard, par-71 course.
UC Santa Barbara claimed the team title with an 873 total, followed by Nevada at 876 and Brigham Young at 887. There were 14 schools in the tournament.
Mustang Jordan Wright finished in a tie for 23rd place with a 224 total following a final-round 74 while Cole Nygren (pictured at right) placed 32nd with a 226 total after posting a 70.
Cal Poly's other scoring golfers were Court Lewis (77-229), tied for 42nd place; Mitchell Martin (81-238), tied for 67th place, and Alex Romo (80-239), tied for 69th place.
Two other Mustangs competed as individuals. Johnny Castles finished tied for 63rd with a 237 total following a final-round 84 while Brandon Shaw also finished tied for 63rd with a 237 total after carding a final-round 77.
Cal Poly returns to action April 19-20 at the El Macero Classic hosted by UC Davis at the El Macero Country Club.
