Mustang Women's Tennis Edged at San Jose State, 4-3

SAN JOSE, Calif. – Senior Ane McPike (right) prevailed in both singles and doubles action at San Jose State on Saturday afternoon, but the Cal Poly women's tennis program – after conceding the doubles point – dropped two three-set singles matches and a 4-3 decision against the Spartans.
In doubles action, McPike teamed with fellow senior Jennifer Cornea to deliver an 8-6 triumph at the No. 1 spot against San Jose State's Sabastiani Leon Chao and Gaelle Rey. At No. 2, however, Mustang juniors Hannah Stone and Mika Padmanabhan fell versus Julianna Bacelar and Jessica Willett (8-4) while Cal Poly senior Kathryn Webb and freshman Sayaka Tsugai lost by the same score at No. 3 against Marie Klocker and Justine Deleval.
In singles play, Klocker outdueled Cornea at the No. 1 spot (7-6, 3-6, 6-0) while Rey topped Mustang freshman Emily Gibbens at No. 2 (6-4, 6-1). Padmanabhan returned at the No. 3 position to best Bacelar (6-3, 6-4), but Stone fell versus Chao at No. 4 (5-7, 6-2, 6-3). Webb, playing at No. 5, rallied to post a 2-6, 6-4, 7-5 win against Willett and McPike prevailed against Deleval at No. 6 (6-4, 6-2).
Cal Poly returns to Mustang Courts to host No. 56 Santa Clara on Sunday, Feb. 16 at 11 a.m.
