SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The Cal Poly multi-event squad competed against a national field at the Sam Adams International and gained some valuable experience. On the men's side, freshman Devin Bennett placed 13th in the 18 person field with San Luis Obispo's Chris Randolph, competing for Skechers won the two day event with 7840 points.
Recently crowned 2012 World Indoor Champion and Olympic Gold Medal hopeful Ashton Eaton finished with 4191 points, wining four of five events he competed in. Former Cal Poly standout Corbin Duer finished 11th with 5906 points.
On the women's side senior Whitney Sisler finished sixth with freshman Calynn Stanford coming home 10th in the 11 person field. Former Cal Poly standout Sharon Day won the event with a score of 6337 points.
The freshman from Renton, Washington finished 13th while scoring points in eight of the 10 events. Bennett's meet was highlighted in the 1500, winning the event with a time of 4:26.66. Bennett also posted a respectable mark in the high jump when he cleared 6 feet, 2.75 inches.
Bennett also posted marks of 11.91 in the 100 meter dash, 51.56 in the 400 and 16.73 in the 110 meter hurdles.
In field events he posted marks of 19 feet and 10.50 inches in the long jump, 35 feet, 11 inches in the shot put.
Bennett failed to post marks in the javelin and the high jump.
In the heptathlon, Sisler posted a time of 15.02 in the 100 hurdles followed by Stanford with a time of 18.23.
In the high jump, Sisler excelled with a mark of 5 feet, 10 inches with Stanford clearing 4 inches.
Sisler posted a mark of 32 feet, 1.75 inches in the shot put with Stanford recording a mark of 27 feet, 10.50 inches.
In the 200, Sisler was recorded in a time of 26.80 while Stanford was clocked in 27.36.
Sisler posted a solid mark of 18 feet, 9.75 inches in the long jump with Stanford posting a leap of 14 feet, 9.75 inches.
In the javelin Stanford had a throw of 113 feet, 3 inches with Sisler recording a throw of 93 feet, 3.50 inches.
The meet concluded with the 800 with Stanford posting a time of 2:31.67 with Sisler clocked in 2:45.18.
